You know, it's wonderful to fantasize about Adventure. But are any of us willing to pay the price, and give up our radical comfort to go face to face with who we really are?
There's no food in those misty mountains -- you'll have to hunt for it and figure out which part to eat and what to leave. There might be water, but can you reach it? Are you ready to enter strange cities that don't know your name? To humbly lay down your life for them and let your true gifts make room for you there?
Frodo longed for adventure, but Frodo didn't volunteer for the one he got thrown into. He was chased out of the Shire.
Moses was chased out of Egypt.
Joseph was sold into slavery.
Jacob was chased off by his brother.
John was sent into the Wilderness.
David was forced into hiding.
These men weren't ready for the adventure. They were forced into that adventure. It’s good to long for God’s purposes and dreams for you. I just have to caution against writing a script that God has already written. We are on the journey already.
Many of us have left Ur and are on the way to the Promised Land. Others here have been drug off into captivity or prison, and some others of us have been chased off into the desert, a lonely place where we don't know the people, feeling abandoned by God and wondering if we missed our calling somewhere on the way.
What have I done to get stuck watching sheep?
You will be on that adventure one day, my friend. I share the pain of waiting. How long, Father?
